New students, please attend Orientation at the Houston Extension from 9 to 3 on Saturday, January 10. Learn how to plan, register, finance, and enjoy your years in training for ministry. You will also take a mandatory Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and have your ID photo taken. (This day is completely different from Discover Dallas.) Continuing students who have not yet attended Orientation are welcome. Spouses are welcome, too. Respond yes or no to Jennie Bell by Wednesday, January 7, to help us provide adequate lunches and materials.

Get out from under the pile of all those reading assignments! And also know what you read! Houston students will be able to join the DTS Rapid Reading Course taught by Professor Greg Hatteberg by interactive video on three Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 PM. Dates are January 28, February 4, and February 11. This course is also open to CBS students. Sign up with Tim Pepper in the DTS Houston Office by paying $65 per person / $110 per couple. Make checks payable to DTS.

As a DTS Houston student, you are invited to help host Houston-area donors at a fund-raising luncheon Thursday, January 15, at the River Oaks Country Club.
Donors enjoy meeting current students, and you can be of great help with registration, greeting, and directing. The Luncheon is from noon to 1:15. You would need to arrive at the ROCC at 10:45 for brief instructions. The work will be minimal and, as a reward, you will be included for the lunch and program that will feature DTS student testimonies and a message from Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Dallas.

Graduation Application Deadline

Graduation Applications for Summer 2009 graduates not participating in the Spring 2009 commencement ceremony are available online under Forms and Information, in CampusNet. If you are planning to graduate in Summer 2009, your completed application is due April 1, 2009.  You will be eligible to participate in the Spring 2010 commencement ceremony.

NOTE: Your graduation application is not complete until any/all church verification letters have been received.

After April 1, 2009, graduation dates for those students with incomplete applications will be moved to a later session.

Professors are allowed two weeks from the end of each semester to submit grades to the Registrar’s Office. That means grades should be posted very soon. Meanwhile, do not despair if you see IP as your grade. IP stands for In Progress, meaning you are enrolled in the class and the grade has not yet been posted. “Lord grant me patience, and please hurry!”

Husbands and wives of current students are welcome to sit in classes on a space-available basis. A spouse can audit as many as three courses per semester. They can be the same or different classes from those the “real student” is taking. Enroll by calling the Registrar’s Office 1-800-DTS-WORD x 3608, beginning Monday, January 12, between 8 and 4:30.

As an extension student, if you see an elective that interests you offered in Houston, take it now. Required courses will be offered in Houston annually. Electives may come up only every three, four, or five years. So, if your choice is between an elective and a required course, grab the elective while you can. This spring, those electives available in Houston include:

If you have taken either NT111 or NT112 and need the other course, you may take half of NT113 offered this spring and again next fall. Contact Dr. Will Johnston for approval and then the Registrar’s Office to add the course to your schedule.
